In the year 2017–18, we have seen more Bollywood Weddings than Movies. Be it Anushka-Virat’s hush-hush ceremony in Italy or Deepika-Ranveer’s wedding announcement on Instagram, we have witnessed them all. The Bollywood celebrities have surely set some major wedding goals for us to take notes. So ladies & gentlemen, today we are rounding up 7 wedding trends for brides & grooms that are here to not just stay but also slay this wedding season.
Indian millennial couples have started to prefer more intimate, minimalist weddings with a guest list of under 100 people. This has led to a direct impact on their selection of wedding trousseau.Let’s begin with the top trends that are set to rule in the coming months, something worth considering if you are getting married in 2018–19.
The color – Ivory :
The color Ivory represents quietness and pleasantness. Ivory sets a tone of understated elegance. Until now this color was not amongst the top choices for brides for obvious reasons but with this increasing bent towards minimalism, brides and grooms both have started to pick “Ivory” as the base of their outfit. The heavy embroidery has taken a backseat as the millennial couple choose to let their personality shine through instead.
Leheriya Print :
Leheriya Print can been seen all around. Leheriya prints are usually colorful and help to brighten up an otherwise basic outfit. Brides can incorporate this trend by choosing a leheriya dupatta with anarkali for mehendi function. Even grooms are incorporating this trend by opting for leheriya safas. Bright colored safas with a simple sherwani is the way to go! #sabysachi gave us major goals by launching leheriya safas in his latest Spring Summer 2018 collection.
Pastel Hues :
The millennial couples are getting more and more experimental when it gets to choosing fresh, new colors for their D-day. Red still rules the chart but a lot of people have started to incorporate pastel hues to their wedding ensemble. The most popular colors are Ivory, Almond Buff, Salmon and Blush Pink with blush pink being the most popular. Brides, pair heavy jewelry with pastel lehengas to add the traditional touch and grooms, wear pastels safas in the same color family to balance the look.
Floral Patterns :
Floral is back and how! For that perfect mehendi outfit, there is nothing better than a floral outfit which adds the perfect brightness to the day time function. Choose pastels as the base color so that the focus remains on the flowers. Brides, keep the makeup nude and Grooms, keep the safas bright and quirky.
Color Coordinated Outfits :
Color coordinated outfits have been trending more than ever. Twirling in similar tones can help couples look their best in pictures. There are two ways to do that. First is where bride and groom go all matchy-matchy from head to toe including the groom wearing the same colored safa and pocket square. Second way is a little less matchy-matchy where the groom can either carry a stole or a pocket square or a safa of the same color as bride’s lehenga to color coordinate. Trending colors include the pastel hues and neons both.
Block Printing :
Block Printing is an old tradition which is still very much alive today. It offers fuss-free, lightweight outfits unlike the other heavy outfits from the wedding trousseau. This is one trend which is most popular for functions like mehendi where both bride and groom want to enjoy, dance and have fun. For Grooms, Angrakhas are more popular than ever. Ranveer Singh wore a block printed Anghrakha for his mehendi too.
Tip from Ur Style Coach — Men, don’t shy away from this trend. This might look experimental but this is totally worth the limelight.
Hand Embroidery :
Priyanka Chopra’s choice for a hand-embroidered wedding lehenga was phenomenal. Not OTT in any way, she kept it simple with a monotone hand emroidered red lehenga which had a more modern touch than traditional. Lehenga had hand-cut organza flowers, French knots in silk floss, delicate Siam-red crystals and threadwork embroidery. It took 110 embroiderers and 3720 hours to create this ‘impossible couture’. Credits to Sabyasachi for this marvelous piece of creation. For grooms, hand emroidered & tone on tone embroidered sherwani’s and bandhgala’s are the first preference for a subtle look. Choose hand emroidered ensemble if your first preference is a clean, minimal look.
These were a few trends for the millennial couple who wants to feel free and have fun during the wedding and still look traditional.
