SELF-CARE IS IMPORTANT. HERE’S WHY!

We all have been staying home for the most part of days courtesy to ‘The Pandemic’. Believe it or not, staying at home and working have made our days busier. Our social aspect of life has come to standstill and honestly, there isn’t much we can do about it.

We all feel overworked, drained and lethargic. We haven’t been able to make room for self-care activities or as it is commonly called ‘Me-Time’.  The term ‘Self-care’ may sound pretentious, indulgent and fancy but we can’t stress enough on how important it is for our overall (physical and mental) well-being. Here are five reasons why you should invest your time doing self-care activities.

IMPROVES SELF-CONFIDENCE

Self-care implies that at that particular moment you are making yourself the priority. It helps you boost your confidence and in turn improves your overall mood.

IMPROVES WORK-LIFE BALANCE

Work is important but so is taking care of yourself. We do tend to overlook our needs because we give so much value to our work. Taking out time to do self-care activities helps bring balance between our work and life.

HELPS WITH STRESS MANAGEMENT

Constant work stress can be daunting for good health. According to The American Institute of Stress: About 33 % of people report feeling extreme stress. 77 % of people experience stress that affects their physical health and 73 %of people have stress that impacts their mental health. Self-care activities like meditation, talking to family/friends or doing something you enjoy helps release stress and can make you feel relaxed. It also helps you boost your energy levels so that you are ready to take on another day of hectic work.

GIVES YOU TIME TO REFLECT

Keeping up with the roadrunner way of living, we are often left with no time to appreciate and enjoy small moments. Life is a precious gift and there exists no reason why we shouldn’t savour it. When you take time out to take care of yourself you slow down from your fast-paced life. It gives you time to rejuvenate. So, take that book out that you have been meaning to read, take a long relaxing bath or take up a new hobby.

IMPROVES PHYSICAL HEALTH

Eating healthy, doing any form of physical activity, taking care of your hygine are forms of  self care that not only contribute to good physical health but also to good mental health.

Here are some self-care activities you should give a try:

  1. Meditate/ Excersise/ Yoga
  2. Read a book
  3. Spend time something you love  and enjoy or take up a new hobby
  4. Eat Healthy
  5. Take care of  your skin/ Pamper yourself
  6. Clean your surroundings
  7. Spend time with your family/ talk to your friends
  8. Go off Social media
  9. Journal: Write down your feelings
  10. Sleep/ Take rest
